A BALLYGAWLEY property has made it through to the final of the RTÉ competition show, ‘Home of the Year’.
In last Tuesday’s episode, viewers got a glimpse of the interior of photographer Peter Carvill’s gate lodge, which was built in the mid-1700s.
It’s a Grade 2 listed building . An extension was added around 25 years ago by the previous owner.
Peter purchased the property in 2022 and settled on a mix of country chic and cottage core for his interior, which he felt ‘fitted beautifully’ with the nature that surrounds his home.
Speaking to the Tyrone Herald about the property, Peter said, “I just thought it was like something out of a movie. I was captivated by everything from the garden to the stonework, the thatched windows… it’s just so beautiful and quaint.
“Working in weddings, I would see a lot of old castles and historic buildings, so I suppose my taste has been probably subconsciously been drawn to that theme.
“I wake up every day so blessed and happy to be living here!”
On the RTE programme, each of the three judges scored Peter’s home a nine out of ten.
in total, it achieved 27 which was the highest score of the three properties featured during episode two.
Peter’s Gate Lodge is now through to the final in April when the winner will be crowned.
Home of the Year continues on RTÉ One on Tuesdays at 8.30pm.
