Andy runs for the hills to raise money for people with cancer

HIS legs are tired, his heart is heavy and his motivation is wavering – but Andy Campbell is still on a mission to run/walk for miles every day this month to help raise money for two organisations who helped his dear sister when she was suffering from cancer.

Now facing day 27 of his tough 31-day ‘Red January’ challenge, the Omagh man believes that every second of the physical strain and exhaustion is worth it if he can reach his £2,000 target for North West Cancer Centre in Altnagelvin, Derry, and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Speaking to the UlsterHerald, Andy has expressed his thanks to everyone who has donated to his cause to date, and for all the support he has received in person and online as he continues to traverse the sweeping hills of the Gortin Glens, the winterworn streets of Omagh and even the dark roads of Drumnakilly… But he hasn’t found it easy!

“I’m struggling!” he laughed. “But I’m doing the fundraiser on behalf of my sister who went through cancer last year. She had her chemotherapy, operation and radiotherapy in North West Cancer Centre in Altnagelvin, and Macmillan also helped her.

“With all that has been going on over the past two years, my challenge is a reminder that there is more than just Covid-19 affecting families.

“I would be really grateful if my friends, family and supporters on Facebook can spare a few pounds for my cause, and it would also give me that extra motivation to keep getting out the door,” Andy added.

“All donations are welcome – no matter how small.

“Every penny counts, and it will also help me push through the next few days.”
