A FINTONA man who will turn 90 in September has raised over £11,102 for Marie Curie through shaving his long and impressive beard.
George Gilmour told the Tyrone Herald that he raised the money by going from house to house in the evenings and having local people sponsor him.
The near nonagenarian said he travelled to estates and villages across west Tyrone including Fintona, Dromore and Seskinore.
This is the third time George has grown a lengthy beard and shaved it for charity. With all his collected fundraising efforts added up, he has raised an amazing £27,000.
George said, “I think Marie Curie is a fantastic charity and they do great work helping people who are going through cancer treatment.
“When I was raising the money I drove around to different areas collecting. I would park my car at the end of an estate and walk from house to house.”
Marie Curie has thanked George and said the money he has raised will be used to provide services for people in need.
The north west fundraiser for the charity Sheena Havlin said, “Marie Curie are delighted to accept this fantastic donation from George.
“It is an exeptional amount if money and it will be used to provide services for people locally.”
