Bright balloons, a delicious cake and lots of cheer certainly helped make Patsy McCullagh’s recent 100th birthday bash truly special – and the centenarian is now celebrating again after helping to raise £1,220 for a charity close to his heart.
That is because, in lieu of receiving gifts at his party, which took place at the bustling O’Neill’s Bar and Bistro in Gortin, Patsy asked for money to be donated, instead, to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Patsy’s spirited party, which took place on Friday, September 2, featured a wealth of his nearest and dearest companions and relatives – including surprise visits from loved ones who had travelled from Ireland, England, and even the USA, to be there.
And while a scrumptious buffet was served for all guests, Paddy, who spent his early years in Fintona, before moving to Glenlark, Gortin, said that it was the simpler grub he was reared on which marked the secret to his longevity – namely spuds, cabbage, bacon… And a dollop of butter for good measure!
