A DAY of remembrance and celebration will take place next month in honour of the late John Rafferty a talented young player whose tragic death in a road collision left a profound impact on the Killyclogher community.
On Saturday, May 4, hundreds are expected to gather for a series of events commemorating John’s contributions to both his club and Tyrone GAA.
John’s promising future was cut short at just 21 years of age in a devastating road traffic collision on the A5 Curr Road near Beragh in October 2022.
His passing prompted the launch of Tyrone GAA’s ‘Enough is Enough’ campaign, which has been campaigning vigorously to see the completion of a dual-carriageway along the 55 mile stretch of the A5 between Aughnacloy and Newbuildings.
Now, Killyclogher GAA is organising ‘John’s Day,’ a heartfelt tribute featuring a range of activities to remember the young athlete, who was a member of the Tyrone U-20 team and captained his club to Tyrone Minor success. The activities wil get underway with a two hour coaching session for players of all ages up to U-18 between 10am and 12 noon.
Then, there will be a seven-a-side competition involving many of the top clubs in Tyrone
Events will conclude with a night of music in Dún Uladh between 8pm and 11pm. Featured acts include Andrew Dolan, PJ Cunningham and Cara McGillion.
