Stormont steps in to help trace JD Vance’s Tyrone roots

A Stormont department has produced a dossier on US Vice-President JD Vance’s family links to Tyrone.

The Department for Communities (DfC) is hoping the 24-page document, entitled ‘The Family Footsteps of JD Vance’, will be presented to Donald Trump’s deputy in the near future and convince him to visit the county.

It was recently revealed a local historian has uncovered a fascinating link between the village of Coagh and JD Vance.

John Hagan delved into the Vance family tree after learning of JD Vance’s claim to Ulster Scots ancestry.

His findings trace the Vice-President’s family back to Coagh and the surrounding area, revealing a deep-rooted connection that stretches back more than four centuries.

The Belfast Telegraph is reporting about the new DfC efforts to find out more information about Vance’s Tyrone connections.

A department spokesperson said: “The research results traced a potential link to an Andrew Williamson Vance who was born in Ireland circa 1666 and emigrated circa 1733 to America.

“The research has been passed to US government officials and is hoped to be formally presented at a future date.”
