LOCAL folk rock band the Porter Bellys have returned with their latest single ‘Take My Hand’, a track that drives forward with pulsing, upbeat rhythms, fusing the raw spirit of Irish folk with a rocked-up edge.
Originally penned by leading Scottish group Skerryvore, the song has been adopted as a modern Scottish anthem, and is now being given new life by the Fermanagh and Tyrone based group.
“Our hopes for this song is that it will elevate the Irish folk scene with a fresh and dynamic spin,” said the band.
The track was recorded and produced by the renowned Spout Studios (Jonathan Owens) and marks a significant moment for the band who have been crafting their blend of Irish folk and rock music behind the scenes since their formation in 2018.
With gigs in American, Dubai and all over Ireland under their belt the group certainly aren’t showing any signs of slowing down.
Featuring Mark McAloon (vocals/guitar), James McCaffrey (flutes/whistles), Chris Maguire (button accordion), Odhran Sweeney (keys/vocals), Jason McGuinness (fiddle), Ryan Muldoon (bass guitar) and Sean Reynolds (drums), the band have made their mark across Ireland and beyond in recent years, headlining major festivals and touring internationally with their energetic blend of Irish folk, rock, and traditional music – a sound which is amplified in their latest release.
Citing some of their biggest influences as The Dubliners, The Pogues, The Waterboys, Planxty and The Dropkick Murphys, members of the band have also previously won All-Ireland titles at the Irish Fleadh, with button accordionist, Chris, earning the titled in 2013 and tin whistler, James, taking it in 2015.
‘Take My Hand’ is available now on all major streaming services including a music video on YouTube.
