The Capri’s living their best nights!

EAST Tyrone’s young band, ‘The Capris’ are buzzing as they hit the scene with lockdown restrictions easing, and are celebrating the huge success of their latest recording ‘My Best Nights’.

Easily accessible on social media sites after going out to the public recently, and after just two days, it was already half way to the number of streams for their previous number, ‘I Got Love’, released in February.

The Capris took time out soon after they formed in 2017, but are delighted they got the show back on the road again as bookings flood in.

Padraic Loughran from Coalisland pens the songs and plays guitar, while lead singer, Odhran Donnelly from Edendork can also turn his hand to guitar and Jonny Mitchell from Dungannon is on bass and aces the backing vocals.

Padraic, who is in his final year of Business Studies at Ulster University in Jordanstown said,

“We formed when we were in St Patrick’s College in Dungannon four years ago. “It fizzled out soon after, but later we were on a ‘lad’s holiday’ with friends in Croatia, and we decided one night on the balcony, to give it another go!

“When we got home, we started practicing in Odhran’s garage in Edendork. A few months later, we were offered our first gig at a school talent show.”

JAMMED

In the garage, there was a Ford Capri and so the group was christened ‘The Capris.’

Last weekend they played at Sallys bar in Omagh and got a great reception. Padraic added,

“We played our new song at the weekend and the audience loved it. “I wrote it and took it to the lads and they ‘jammed’ it and then we took it to Ross Lavery in Moy to get it produced.

“We are very grateful to John Mitchell for all his support. He is a lifelong musician and has given us advice on sounds and gigs. He is a great mentor to us.” The band members are juggling their music exploits with study and work as Jonny graduated in Business Studies during the summer, and Odhran is a full-time plasterer with plenty of work on.

The first song The Capris produced was ‘I Got Love’ at the start of this year. It was well-received, however their latest song is well on the way to outshining it. The three band members are delighted at the response and the reopening of venues after strict Covid shutdowns.

“It is a fresh start, and we are getting a lot of gigs and bookings for private parties and bars. Hopefully the worst of the restrictions are over and people can get back out enjoying themselves.”

The Capris new single ‘My Best Nights’ can be heard on YouTube, Spotify, Amazon, and other social media platforms. The group is also on Instagram @TheCaprismusic and Facebook @TheCaprisOfficial
