Build your Perfect Work Wardrobe

Dressing for work can be tricky, especially if you have an individual sort of style. It’s difficult to find clothes that are appropriate for work that you actually feel like yourself in. There are so many shapless boxy polyblend monstrosities out there, it can be difficult to locate suitable workwear that doesn’t make you feel flammable of break the bank.
We’re going to help you put together a work wardrobe that makes you look and feel professional whilst still having a sense of individuality.
Have a clearout – Go through your wardrobe and pick out anything you find yourself turning your nose up at every morning. Look at it and figure out what it is you don’t like about those items. Is it the colour? Does it not fit? Is it uncomfortable? Whatever the reason, figure out what it is you don’t like and that way you’ll know what to steer clear of.
Think – Think about the style of clothes you’re after, is it corporate level attire you’re looking for or is it something a bit more casual? Adhere to the dress code of your work place when choosing the items you’re buying. Maybe make a pinterest board for inspiration, that way you can keep in mind the vibe of what you want to buy.
Choose the essentials – Before you go out on your shopping expedition, make a list of all the pieces that you know you will need. Here is our guideline list. In terms of what will become your basics, it’s advisable to stick to a neutral colour pallete, such as navy, grey or black.

  • A good quality, well fitting white shirt. Perhaps two, if you find one you like and you know it’s going to be a staple.
  • A pair of professional yet stylish trousers that are comfortable and long lasting.
  • For the ladies, a smart skirt is usually a staple but make sure it isn’t too short. If you have to pull it down, go for a longer length. A nice knee length pencil style skirt does the trick.
  • Black socks or tights
  • A pair of sensible work shoes. For the ladies, make sure the heel isn’t too high, you don’t want to be hobbling around the office all day.
  • A smart jacket that fits! The fit of this jacket is essnetial, too small and you’ll be really uncomfortable, too big and you’ll look like you’re wearing a box.

Don’t be cheap – Don’t go for the cheapest option on your essentials, because you’ll have to replace that same item in a few weeks. Invest in a few quality basic pieces, such as skirts, trousers, jackets and white shirts. Then build on these with less expensive tops and accessories that you will wear less and can interchange.
By following these steps, you should be able to put together a workwear wardrobe that is stylish yet professional, and doesn’t cost the earth. Good Luck!
