Air cadets donate surplus uniforms to health workers

AIR cadets from Omagh have donated a large quantity of surplus combat uniforms to the community effort to provide scrubs and masks for NHS staff on the frontline of the coronavirus crisis.

The 72 (Omagh) Squadron, based at St Lucia Barracks, responded to the urgent appeal to provide health workers with vital equipment by donating more than 100 sets of surplus combat uniforms held by the unit.

Flight Lieutenant Graham Dodds, Officer Commanding, Omagh and Fermanagh RAF Air Cadets (RAFAC), organised the donation.

He said, “In this time of national emergency, our squadron felt compelled to step up and do what we could to support our fantastic NHS and health care staff across Northern Ireland.

“Good citizenship is at the core of what RAFAC is about and this donation will support those battling this national threat by providing vital items of equipment.

“This surplus uniform is ideal for medical use as it is polycotton and of excellent quality.”

He added, “The response of our local community has been fantastic at this challenging time and we are honoured to play our part in protecting everyone involved in protecting us.”

Flight Lieutenant Dodds also thanked Lorraine Palmer for organising the NI-wide collection.
