Appeal for blankets to help keep poorly pets comfy

A KIND vet, who is based in Omagh, has encouraged local people to donate their unused blankets to the practice to give poorly pets, or animals at the end of their lives, the comfort and care they deserve.

Louise O’Hare-Beaumont, a native of Castlederg, says that supply is currently running low at Corry & O’Hare Vets, and all donations of pre-loved, unwanted or brand new blankets would be ‘much appreciated’.

She added that while the most desirable type of blanket is crochet or fleece, the practice will happily accept towels, too.

“We use blankets in many situations,” Louise, co-owner of the practice, explained. “They keep animals warm when they are recovering from surgery. They also keep our pets comfortable when they are unwell, and for our nervous patients, we use them to create a place for them to hide so that they feel more secure.

“And we use them when it is time to let a pet go, so they feel loved, secure and warm.”
Continuing, Louise said that it is an important part of the practice’s ethos to encourage recycling of unwanted blankets.

“If people are clearing out their homes, and find blankets that they are considering dumping because charity shops aren’t open, please bring them in,” she said. “We would massively appreciate any donations.

“It means we can continue to give every pet, and the wildlife that we see, the care they deserve.”
