Boris’ letter delight for Emily

IT’S not every day that a Tyrone schoolgirl receives a letter from the Prime Minister.

But that is exactly what happened to young Emily Crozier from Seskinore last week!

Kind-hearted Emily (9), who is a daughter of Joe and Gladys Crozier, owners of the village shop, had written to 10 Downing Street after Boris Johnson became ill with coronavirus in late March.

In her letter, the McClintock Primary School pupil wrote, “Thank you Boris Johnson for helping us through this difficult time.”
The budding artist also drew a picture of the PM.

Mr Johnson spent a week in hospital, including three nights in intensive care, as he battled the virus.

He later thanked the NHS staff who treated him for saving his life.

The P5 pupil said she wrote to the Prime Minister because she heard he was in hospital.

When asked to describe Mr Johnson, Emily said, “He’s nice.”

Proud dad Joe said that his daughter was “very good-natured” with people.

He said, “If anyone is sick she would be wanting to do something for them. That would be her way. She’s very kind-hearted and helpful.”
But he admitted that the schoolgirl had almost given up hope of receiving a reply.

He said, “She was looking for a letter back every day. But we thought there might never be a reply, that they might not bother with a trivial thing like that.”

Then, out of the blue, a letter addressed to Emily arrived last week.

Joe said, “Sure enough, when she opened it she was all excited. She said this is from Boris Johnson.

“At first we thought she wasn’t talking sense!

“It’s not every day that you’re going to get a letter from the Prime Minister.”

In his reply, Mr Johnson wrote, “Thank you so much for the wonderful message and good wishes you sent me when I was unwell.
“The letters and cards I received really cheered me up.

“As you may have heard, I’m back in 10 Downing Street now and feeling much better.

“Thank you also to you and your family for all you are doing to keep yourselves and others safe.”
