Clair raises £5,000 for charity after shaving her head

AN Omagh woman said she has ‘5,500 reasons for being thankful’ after shaving her head on Valentine’s Day to raise money for the WAVE Trauma Centre and the MS Society in Omagh.

That’s because Clair Devlin’s brave decision to get rid of her locks has so far raised £5,500 for the two charities.

Both are particularly close to Clair’s heart as she has been a complementary therapist for WAVE for 12 years, and a reflexologist for the Omagh branch of the MS Society for almost eight years.

“I have worked for the two organisations; it was always an aim of mine to do something for them,” she said.

“It was a big decision to shave my head,” Clair admitted.

“But I’m someone who sticks by a decision once it’s reached and there’s absolutely no regrets about doing this. I have those 5,500 reasons to be thankful and the support and generosity of people has been brilliant.”

Clair was also motivated by the fact that both charities, like so many others, have been unable to carry out their normal fundraising activities, such as street collections and bag packing, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“My original goal was to raise £2,000, so the current amount has surpassed all my expectations.

“The GoFundMe page will be open until the end of this month for anyone who wants to contribute,” concluded Clair.
