Council issues advice on Christmas bin collections and recycling

FERMANAGH and Omagh District Council has confirmed that household bin collections across the district will not be affected by Christmas and New Year closures this year and will continue as normal.

However, in the event of snow and icy weather conditions bin collections could be affected, if so, the council has asked to please continue to leave your bins out and they will be collected as soon as possible.

The Council has also asked with Covid-19 still prevalent in the community, to continue to wash hands and wipe bin handles after bringing the bin to the kerbside and after collection.

If you are self-isolating, or have Covid-19, please follow the government advice and double bag your waste, set aside for 72 hours and place in your black or green landfill bin.

The Council has also asked people to reuse items as much as possible over the festive period.

The Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Errol Thompson said, “Christmas is all about giving, so this Christmas, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is asking everyone to give a little back to help the environment by reusing as much possible and recycling what you can.

“There are lots of festive items all around the home that can be reused, from cardboard boxes and empty drinks bottles to wrapping paper and greetings cards – but please remove as much tape as you can and leave out the heavily glittered or foiled types as these can’t be recycled.”
