Council issues warning of bogus callers

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has warned local businesses to be aware of bogus callers claiming to be from the Council’s Environmental Health service.

According to the Council, these bogus callers are contacting organisations and premises, ‘advising that they are in breach of Covid-19 regulations, and could be fined £2,000’.

Stating that that these calls ‘are not genuine’,  the council further advised to ‘never give out personal information such as bank details’, and end the communication immediately.

If anyone has recently been approached in a similar manner, they should report it immediately to the PSNI on  non-emergency telephone number 101.

Any contact the Council makes with the public in relation to Council services will be through personal contact by authorised staff who will have Council-issued identification.

If anyone is not fully satisfied that the ID is genuine, or requires reassurance regarding the authenticity of a caller, they should make immediate contact with the Council on 0300 303 1777 to verify the caller’s details.

• If you think you have been a victim of a scam, you can report it to the PSNI on the non-emergency police service on 101.
