A GLORIOUS field of giant sunflowers that dance and shimmer in the summer sunlight are helping to keep the positive memories of the late Siobhan Conway alive.
Hand sown by Siobhan’s brother, Martin McDonald and her father, Dan McDonald in tribute to the ‘bright, bubbly, and outgoing lady’, the spectacle of more than 5,000 flowers casts a golden glow over Old McDonald’s Fun Farm, Kildress, where the field is located.
At present, the spectacular display, titled ‘Field of Hope’, is open to the public, and all proceeds raised will be donated to the Intensive Care Unit of Altnagelvin Area Hospital.
Siobhan, a native of Creggan, sadly passed away on March 31, 2020, after a prolonged battle with renal tubular acidosis.
Her husband, Patrick Conway from Pomeroy, says that the field perfectly embodies Siobhan’s beautiful spirit.
“She was a bright, bubbly girl,” Patrick described. “Siobhan was always so friendly and outgoing, and the flowers represent her well.
“Despite being sick for the last ten years, Siobhan kept a smile on her face and a desire to keep on going, and to keep fighting.
“Because of her illness, Siobhan spent time at Altnagelvin ICU several times over the years. The staff there were always so good to her, and that is why we are raising money for the unit.”
