AN Omagh barber is on a mission to cut through the ‘doom and gloom’ of the coronavirus crisis by putting the ‘fun into fundraising’ and purchase vital PPE for healthcare staff.
Aidan Glass, aka ‘The Drone King, has already raised almost £1,500 within the past week through his Go Fund Me page thanks to the support of local musicians and the generosity of the public.
The barber has been letting his creative juices flow during this lockdown and swapped his clippers for a camera to document the impact of the restrictions on his native Greencastle.
Aidan has also been recording a series of fun videos with his trusty drone and has now enlisted a range of local musicians and comedians who are performing online to join his fundraising cause.
Omagh singer Dermy Taggart raised £650 from an online gig last weekend and more events are planned for forthcoming days and weeks.
Aidan explained, “I just want to put the fun in fundraising and have a positive affect at a time when there is such sad news about. There are many good stories out there and it is good to try and lift peoples’ spirits.”
All money raised will go towards purchasing PPE equipment for local frontline staff and also to help supply food banks in the area.
“I have lots of ideas and I’m getting great support from very talented local people,” said Aidan.
“This crisis is bringing the best out of a lot of people which is great to see.
“Due to a number of donations and an online fundraiser we have been able to purchase PPE which has been passed on to frontline staff in the local area.
“I have also passed on a wide range of donations to the local food bank appeals taking place and St Vincent De Paul.”
With your help, Aidan’s Go Fund Me Page is set to exceed its target of £2,000.
He also wants everyone to keep an eye on his ‘King of the Drone’ Facebook page for “something big” which is scheduled to happen this Sunday.
