THE Board of Governors and principal of Drumragh Integrated College have welcomed a decision to grant permission for a multi-million pound extension to accommodate the rising enrolment numbers at the school in Omagh.
Councillors in Fermanagh and Omagh have given the green light for the major development.
It includes proposed extensions providing a new technology and design block, office space for Head of Departments, fitness suite, multi-purpose PE hall, classrooms and facilities for students with special educational needs.
In addition, there will be four general classrooms constructed.
It is understood that no date has yet been set for the start of work on the scheme now that planning approval has been granted.
Planning agent, Matthew Crothers, a charatered town planner, said the school’s Board of Governors and principal were “very pleased” with what he described as an exciting development.
“Our main object is to provide new accommodation to cater for the increased number of pupils,” he said.
“The building will follow and re-inforce the existing character of the established college building, and there will be a number of ancilliary works completed, including the introduction of a one-way system for vehicles.
“This scheme will provide fit for purpose accommodation for the school which is in line with Department of Education recommendations.”
Planning approval for the major new scheme has been granted with four conditions.
