Fintona recycling centre to reopen after bank holiday

FINTONA household recycling centre is reopening after Bank Holiday Monday to facilitate the disposal of essential waste for residents, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has confirmed.

It will be the next stage in FODC’s programme of phased reopening of its recycling centres after the amendment to essential journey regulations by the Northern Ireland Executive.

Facilities in Enniskillen, Omagh, Carrickmore and Kesh were partially reopened this morning.

The recycling centres at Fintona and Lisnaskea will be open to the general public to dispose of household bagged non recyclable waste and bagged gardening waste only.

Fintona will reopen on Tuesday, May 26. The opening hours will be Monday to Friday, 11am to 5.45pm, and Saturday, 11am to 3.45pm.

Access will be restricted to cars only, with one occupant per car. No vans or trailers will be permitted. People must follow two-metre social distancing from other site users and site staff at all times.

FODC chair, Siobhán Currie (pictured), said, “The opening of Fintona and Lisnaskea Recycling Centres represent the second phase of the reopening of recycling centres across the district.

“As we continue to deal with the fallout of the Covid-19 health pandemic, I would urge you to travel to the recycling centres only if your journey is absolutely necessary to dispose of essential bagged household non recyclable and bagged garden waste.

“The council continues to follow government guidance in relation to its response to Covid-19 and will take all steps necessary to safeguard the health & safety of staff and visitors to recycling centres.”

Visitors to the sites should bring their own gloves and use hand sanitizer provided. Bins will be available at the exit to dispose of gloves safely.

Anyone who is shielding or self-isolating should not visit the recycling centres under any circumstances.

Any opening of recycling centres is subject to an individual assessment to determine their suitability to meet social distancing and other essential requirementsSites which can meet the requirements will reopen on a phased basis.
