Food parcels distributed to grateful Omagh residents

The council is donating the parcels, which contain a number of food items as well as household essentials, to a variety of areas in the Omagh vicinity.

The O’Kane Park and Culmore Park Residents Association helped to pack and deliver the items to households in the area, and were offered use of the CKS Community Centre to aid the deliveries.

Residents Association treasurer, Anna McGonigle, said the deliveries were the culmination of a ‘big community effort.’

“We packed the bags to bring to every house in O’Kane Park and Culmore Park. The council allowed us to have access to the CKS Centre, which is very good of them.

“A few of the residents of Culmore and O’Kane Park gave up their time to help pack and deliver the items. It’s quite a job but we are very willing to do it.”

“I think it’s a totally lovely thing for the councils to do,” added Anna.

The community worker said residents in the area were grateful to receive the packages during a difficult time.

“There has been nobody has said no as of yet! We have managed to get quite a few delivered already this morning and everyone has been absolutely full of delight at getting a bag.”

Access to the CKS Community Centre has been restricted to residents in recent months for various activities, and Anna said it was ‘vital’ for more leisure and community activities to resume sooner rather than later.

“We would use the centre an awful lot, it’s such a vital part of our community.

“It’s been a big, big loss and I think the council has moved to soften that blow a little, and it’s very much appreciated.”
