THE Department for Education has confirmed the further delay to the start of construction work on the Strule Education Campus in Omagh.
News of the delay, which was first published in the UlsterHerald in June, has now been included in the Department’s annual report.
On that occasion, the Education Minister, Peter Weir, confirmed £19.1 million in funding for the flagship project.
West Tyrone Sinn Fein MLA, Catherine Kelly, has expressed her disappointment at the delay.
She is seeking an urgent meeting with the Minister and Department for Education officials for a full briefing on the procurement issues, which are believed to be causing the delay.
“The Strule Education Campus will bring social, economic and most importantly educational benefits for young people in the Omagh area for generations to come,” she said.
“The slippage in the completion date is disappointing and frustrating.”
