STRABANE Health Improvement Project has unveiled the first wave of its new ‘Covid-19 Community Response Programme.’
Entitled, ‘Emotional Support’, the starter programme will allow clients the opportunity to avail of one-to-one counselling sessions.
Altogether, the extended programme will see a three-pronged approach to mitigating against the after-affects of the coronavirus crisis.
“We are delighted to announce the launch of the first phase of our Covid-19 Community Response Programme,” project officer, Jarlath McNulty said this week.
“The first phase of this programme, ‘Emotional Support’ will see the roll out of our new community counselling and listening ear services.
“Participants can avail of up to six counselling sessions on a one-to-one basis in a safe and friendly environment, and up to three listening ear sessions with signposting and referral services available as appropriate.”
Strabane Health Improvement Project was established in May 2012 with the aim of developing community-based health and well-bring programmes.
THREE PHASES
Jarlath continued, “The launch of our ‘Emotional Support’ programmes is the first of three phases, in our Covid-19 Community Response programme.
“Each phase of the programme will be rolled out over the coming months as we move through the easing of the government lockdown guidelines, and each phase of the programme will be supported by other local community organisations such as Strabane Community Project, and Fountain Street Community Development Association.”
Phase two of the scheme will be ‘Community Activities’ and this will include meditation and yoga sessions alongside physical activity sessions.
Phase three – ‘Community Socialisation Events and Activities’ – will feature community arts and craft sessions, community tea parties, cookery events and community fun day events.
Jarlath concluded, “We would like to take this opportunity to thank the National Lottery for funding our Covid-19 Community Response Programmes, which has only been made possible thanks to the National Lottery players.”
