THE pupils, parents and staff of Holy Family PS are donning their trainers and cosy coats and are continuing their walking challenge this March to help raise funds for Omagh Saturday Club… and you can take part, too!
Set up in 2002, the Club provides social and educational opportunities for children and young people with a learning disability to offer respite for their families and to raise awareness of disability.
Maura Dolan, principal of Holy Family PS, says she is simply ‘delighted’ to step out into the fresh spring season to help support their fantastic work, and has encouraged the local community to join in the efforts.
“We are calling on everyone in our local community to ‘step out’ to get fit and active, and join us as we raise money for Omagh Saturday Club – a wonderful local charity, which provides social opportunities for children with learning disabilities,” Mrs Dolan said.
“In this difficult year of the Covid-19 pandemic, if we can raise funds to enable the children to enjoy some special activities or a fun day out, all the walking will be worthwhile.
“Any donations in support of this challenge are also gratefully received.”
The Omagh Saturday Club meets on the last Saturday of each month in Omagh Youth Centre, and provides a full day of educational and creative pursuits, including
arts, crafts, music, games and dance.
Since the outbreak of Covid-19, the Club have kept in touch with the children and families through online activities, offering a monthly programme of deightful activities on Zoom, while distributing a package of goodies each month, too.
Margaret from Omagh Saturday Club said, “We have been very lucky to have had excellent community support and amazing volunteers throughout all these years,” she said.
“Our club has grown from ten children when we first started, to more than 40 children and young people. It has become a very important part of their lives and our lives, too.”
