Ice cream man spreading joy during the lockdown

A GENEROUS ice cream man has been going above and beyond to put smiles on people’s faces during lockdown.

Chris Kennedy, known as ‘Super Whip Ice Cream’, has been visiting care homes, hospitals and community centres to give residents, staff and volunteers delicious free ice cream.

Chris who is originally from Omagh but now lives near Dromore, has been working on an ice cream van for over 30 years, and he is well known by ice cream lovers throughout Tyrone.

Chris had been off the road since the start of the lockdown but he thought it was time to bring a bit of joy to people at this tough time.

He has also put safety measures in place to ensure he is delivering the ice cream safely.

Chris said, “It doesn’t cost much to put smiles on faces and everybody is happy to see me coming.

“I hadn’t been working during the lockdown as I didn’t think it was safe to be out in housing estates, but I thought I could bring some joy to the frontline workers and others who are working at this time.

“I started off doing it at Knockmoyle nursing home in Omagh. Everyone was so happy to get a cone and I thought it would be a nice thing to do during the current climate.

“It doesn’t take a big pile of money to put smiles on people’s faces – whether they are elderly or young,” concluded Chris.
