JANICE Porter braved both June’s peaceful blue skies and gargantuan thunderstorms to help raise money for the dogs and cats of Grovehill Animal Trust.
The Grovehill chairperson walked a total of 10km every single day during the month of June as part of her intrepid fundraiser, in the hopes of raising £1,000 to help fund the daily living costs of the shelter animals.
However, not only did the Omagh lady manage to walk 439km as she soaked up the beautiful sights and sounds of the Tyrone town and countryside, but she also succeeded in collecting a grand total of £1,651 – and the kind-hearted animal lover says she is absolutely delighted!
“Due to Covid-19, ourselves at Grovehill Animal Trust had to cancel all planned fundraisers such as cake sales, street collections, dog shows and their annual family fun day,” Janice explained. “However the dogs and cats in the care of Grovehill still had to be looked after – so it was time for me to get proactive!
“I set myself the challenge of walking 10km per day during the month of June, and I have to say, the weather was incredible at the start! There were blue skies and brilliant sunshine. But by the end of the month, I had braved torrential rain, drizzle and a thunderstorm… The typical Irish summer!”
