Traffic delays in Tyrone towns due to parades

MOTORISTS can expect considerable traffic disruption tomorrow (Saturday) in the Castlederg and Aughnacloy areas, due to the Royal Black Institution’s traditional ‘Last Saturday’ parades being held in both Tyrone towns.

The parade in Castlederg will start at 12.30pm at the Orange fields and will travel through the town centre and return to the Orange Fields for dispersal. The parade in Aughnacloy will start at 12 noon at Aughnacloy College, and go around the town and disperse back at the college.

Traditionally, the ‘Last Saturday’ demonstrations involves upwards of 17,000 members of the Institution on parade with accompanying bands at six locations across the North.

However, with Covid-19 still in circulation, the flagship parade has been organised on a more localised basis, with a greater number of smaller processions, including in Castlederg and Aughnacloy.

The Royal Black Institution has urged everyone attending a parade to comply with Covid-19 health regulations and guidance, and must follow the directions given by police and event marshals at all times.
