A NUMBER of people were evacuated from their homes in the Loughmacrory area last night as a gorse fire raged in nearby bogland.
Firefighters spent several hours battling the blaze which started yesterday evening in the Fingrean Road area. The fire could be seen from miles around.
It is understood that householders in the area were asked to leave their homes due to the extent of the fire and its closeness to a number of properties.
People were also asked to stay away from the area as the fire service worked to put out the flames.
This latest gorse fire came after similar blazes in the past few days in the Dungannon area.
