Man arrested over Tyrone cross border incident

POLICE in Dungannon have arrested a man on suspicion of several offences in relation to an incident in Aughnacloy earlier today.

The arrest was made as PSNI officers and An Garda Síochána (AGS) officers conducted coordinated vehicle checkpoints on both sides of the border this afternoon (Tuesday), at around 1:30pm.

The male driver of a black Volkswagen Tiguan reportedly drove through the AGS checkpoint towards Aughnacloy.

Inspector Irvine said, “AGS officers alerted us to the incident and, after follow-up investigation by our officers, we located the vehicle in the Aughnacloy area and arrested a man close by.

“The man, aged 54, was arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol in breath, dangerous driving and failing to stop, and he remains in custody this evening assisting us with our enquiries.

“If anyone believes they saw this vehicle in the Aughnacloy area this afternoon, at around 1:30pm, or if anyone has footage of this incident, we would ask them to contact police in Dungannon on 101, and quote reference number 807 of 28/04/20.”

Inspector Irvine added, “This is a good example of cross border work with our colleagues in An Garda Síochána.”
