Strabane Summer Jamm postponed

The Strabane Summer Jamm has been postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The family fun weekend was due to be held in the summer but has now been postoned to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 across the Council area.

Last year, the major event was headlined by country music sensation Nathan Carter. Johnny Brady, David James and a host of local musicians also took to the stage.

The Council also postponed the Foyle Maritime Festival  which was also scheduled to take place over the summer months.

Earlier this week Clipper Ventures confirmed to Council that the Clipper 20/21 Race is postponed, while the Strabane Lifford Half Marathon is also cancelled.

The Council has also closed all Council-owned play parks have been closed to the public amid coronavirus fears.

The closures will take place with a phased approach over the coming days.

The decision comes less than a week after Council closed all its buildings to the public and cancelled a number of up and coming public events.

Members heard that while play parks will be closed over the coming days, public parks and cemeteries will continue to remain open.

Other essential services such as bin collection services will continue to operate.

Recycling centres remain open however some adaptations have been made to limit the number of cars entering sites at the one time in an effort to encourage social distancing.

Members also heard that a number of significant events including the Worker’s Rights and Social Justice Week and the Battle of the Atlantic VE Day commemorations planned for May have also been cancelled.

Events scheduled beyond the summer months will remain under review.
