Major fish kill between Fintona and Dromore

THE Loughs Agency is investigation what has been described as a major fish kill on the Aughlish River which is situated between Fintona and Dromore.

There are frears that thousands of fish have been killed along a 3.1 mile stretch of the river which is a tributary of the Owenreagh River.

Among the species which have been affected are brown trout and juvenile salmon.

Samples have been taken from a ‘suspected agricultural source’ and sent for laboratory analysis.

The West Tyrone SDLP MLA, Daniel McCrossan, said he had written to the Environment Minister, Edwin Poots, about the matter.

“People the length and breadth of Tyrone not only appreciate our local environment and biodiversity, many rely on it for their jobs.”
