Man arrested over murder of Omagh RUC officer

A MAN has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Catholic RUC officer from Omagh over 28 years ago.

Constable Michael Ferguson was shot twice, at close range, in the back of the head by an IRA gunman while on duty in Derry’s Shipquay Street on January 23, 1993.

He was only 21-years-old when he was killed.

It is understood that detectives from the PSNI’s Legacy Investigation Branch arrested the 64-year-old in Derry on Monday.

He is being held under the Terrorism Act and has been taken to Musgrave Police Station for questioning, the BBC is reporting.
