Moy parishioners’ fond farewell to Canon Mayes

THANKS and best wishes have poured in for rector Canon Aonghus Mayes who has moved to serve in Limavady after ten years with St James Parish Church in Moy.

Canon Mayes conducted his last sermons at the church on Sunday. A statement on the parish website read, “All of us parishioners at St James Parish church Moy want to say a massive thank you and farewell to our rector Canon Aonghus Mayes. He has faithfully led us in our worship for over a decade and we want to wish him well as he takes up post in his new parish.

“Thank you for your ministry, exceptional pastoral care, direction in our faith, and friendship, you will be very much missed by all of us in Moy. We want to wish you God’s richest blessing as you embark on your new journey!”

The message was followed by dozens of comments from parishioners thanking Canon Mayes for his service in the parish.

Local people spoke of their sadness at his leaving and for the pastoral care and support he gave to their families.

Typical of the tributes were messages which described him as an “exceptional minister so caring in all aspects of his ministry” and another which read, “Your kindness will never be forgotten”.
