NEW figures from the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) have shown that the number of deaths from the coronavirus within the three Tyrone council areas is higher than previously believed.
The statistics indicate that the total number of people who have died from COVID-19 now stands at 71, compared to previous figures which showed it at 53.
In Fermanagh and Omagh the number of fatalities from the virus has been updated to 16, compared to 10 previously. The number for Mid-Ulster is 29, while 26 people in the Derry City and Strabane area who have passed away from the virus is now at 26.
The Local Government data is based on the usual address of the deceased which is recorded on the death certificate.
The figures cover deaths up to last Friday, May 8.
