SIX new jobs could to be created if well-known Pomeroy firm, Rocwell, gets the green light for an expansion which will see it provide an additional mineral water production facility at its premises just outside the town.
Established by the Quinn family in 1989, the firm is seeking planning permission from Mid Ulster District Council for the facility on the Limehill Road.
It is one of Tyrone’s most recognisable business brands, and sponsored the county’s GAA team for a number of years, including during the 2008 run to the All-Ireland senior football title.
In documents provided as part of the planning application, the company says it requires the additional mineral water production facilities in order to modernise, maintained competitiveness and expand its sales and exports.
“The proposed extension will be fully automated with the latest robotic machinery,” they added.
“In terms of sale, it is a proposed modest extension to an existing business already well-established in this countryside location.
“As a product for human consumption, it needs a modern hygiene building and equipment to ensure safe treatment and bottling of the product on-site.”
Rocwell adds that the nature of its business is anchored in its being rural in character and that the local rural community is ‘proud’ to have a well-known brand produced in its area and provides employment for local people.
The company is planning to have native trees and hedgerows to integrate its new facility into the landscape, if it is eventually granted planning permission.
