Omagh bombing public inquiry decision to be announced today

A DECISION on whether or not there will be a public inquiry into the Omagh bombing is expected to be made by the Secretary of State today.

The Northern Ireland Secretary, Chris Heaton-Harris, is expected to make a statement on this later today in the House of Commons.

This announcement follows a long-running legal action brought by a relative of one of the 29 people who died after the bomb exploded on 15 August, 1998.
In July 2021, the High Court found there should be an investigation into whether intelligence information could have prevented the attack.
