Omagh park toilets finally open to public

AFTER having no usable toilets at the Grange Park for over six months, the council has announced that washroom facilities at the popular playpark will be open again from this Saturday.

With local parents complaining that their children had been left ‘busting for the toilet with nowhere to go’ when playing at the Grange Park, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council said the issue has finally been resolved.

Since the revamped facility reopened last October, the Grange Park has become one of Tyrone’s most visited playparks, attracting parents and children from across the country.

However, despite having been open to the public for more than half a year, no toilet facilities have been available at the park during this time.

Earlier this week, local mother, Una Brogan told the UH how on more than one occasion her daughter, Cara had been left in desperate need of the toilet while playing at the Grange Park.

“I am sure this has been the case for many parents and children who have visited the Grange Park this summer.

“You go, you are having fun, then somebody needs the toilet, and there is nowhere to go,” said Una.

“We were initially waiting patiently for the toilets to open, but, recently, those patience have started to wear thin.”

However, Fermanagh & Omagh District Council confirmed that the toilets will be ready for this weekend.

“The new council public convenience was formally handed over by the contractor to the council on Thursday, July 20.

“The council undertook final commissioning checks, which included a thorough cleaning of the facility to enable opening earlier this week.

“The opening hours for the facility at 8am to 8pm (summer) and 8am to 6pm (winter).

“The toilets are also fitted with RADAR locks to permit 24 hour access for RADAR key holders.

“The council would like to thank the public for their patience during the completion of the works and is pleased that the new Grange Park public toilets have reopened in time for the council’s Teddy Bears Picnic event on Saturday, July 29.”
