Person airlifted to hospital after quarry incident

A PERSON has been airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast following a workplace incident at a quarry near Carrickmore this morning.

It is understood that the incident happened shortly after 8am.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said that they had received a call at 8.11 this morning (Thursday) following reports of an incident in the Termon Road area of Carrickmore.

Two emergency crews were dispatched to the scene and one HART officer. The charity Air Ambulance with HEMS crew on board were also takes to the incident.

“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast,” the spokesperson added.

The injuries and condition of the person are not known at this time. The Health and Safety Executive have visited the scene.

Local Sinn Fein councillor, Catherine Kelly, said the community was very concerned when the reports of the incident had become known.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the person who has been injured. Locally, people are understandably extremely worried when something like this happens,” she added.

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive said; “HSENI has been made aware of an incident at a quarry in the Carrickmore area this morning and is making initial enquiries.”
