Progress on Granville Road lights

PROGRESS has been made in a campaign for street lighting to be put in place on the Granville Road as local councillors Dominic Molloy and Barry Monteith joined charity worker Glena McDowell-Khan in a meeting with officials from the Department for Infrastructure on Monday.

As reported last week, Glena has started a petition calling for street lighting to be put in place on this road and for work to be carried out on the footpath as many factory workers and pedestrians use this walkway.

Councillor Dominic Molloy said, “I welcomed the visit and was pleased that the people from DFI were able to come out on the ground and have a look for themselves and get a full appreciation of the dangers of the road and they were under no illusions that the road was well used by the local community.”

The Department for Infrastructure said, “Officials met with local representatives on site on Monday to discuss the current situation regarding active travel for workers commuting between Granville and Dungannon, especially within the unlit section.

“The representatives were informed of the various policy conditions and budgetary constraints which had to be met and it was made clear that this location did not meet the current street lighting policy. However, the Minister has asked officials to carry out a full active travel assessment at this site.”

Infrastructure Minister Nicola Mallon had announced previously a £20 million fund for Blue Green project delivery in 2021/2022 with £11 million of this fund set aside to finance active travel projects across the North.
