CONCERNS have been raised about vehicles speeding through two Tyrone villages.
The PSNI said they conducted safety checkpoints in Douglas Bridge at the weekend after concerns about speeding in the village were raised with them.
The issue of vehicles travelling through Dromore at high speed has also been raised at Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.
The chair, Cllr John McClaughry, raised the issue at the most recent council meeting after speaking with residents of St George’s Terrace which sits on Old Creamery Road in the town.
“Traffic is coming so fast they are crashing into the roundabout, and that’s affecting residents,” he said.
“I suggest this council writes to the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) Roads Service in Omagh and ask them to have a serious look at some method of slowing down traffic.”
Sinn Féin’s Collette McNulty informed councillors she has already raised this matter with DfI and the PSNI, and while matters are ‘already in hand’, she seconded Cllr McClaughry’s suggestion to send a letter as a reminder.
This was agreed across the Chamber.
