THE SDLP in West Tyrone have tonight selected current MLA Daniel McCrossan, as their candidate for next years Assembly election.
The Strabane born MLA, has served as the MLA for West Tyrone since 2016 and is currently the party Education Spokesperson.
On a post on social media Mr McCrossan said he was ‘delighted and honoured’ to be selected as the parties candidate.
He said, “I am delighted and honoured to be selected as the SDLP candidate for West Tyrone in the Assembly Election. It has been the honour of my life to represent the people of West Tyrone.
“I will always be a voice for every single citizen across West Tyrone. I will always stand up and speak up for everyone.
“It has been a huge honour to represent West Tyrone in the Assembly. It’s been my home for my entire life and it’s been a privilege to bring the voice of local people and their local issues into the Assembly chamber.”
Mr McCrossan added, “While we’ve achieved a lot in this area in recent years there is still plenty of work to do. For too long communities
“West of the Bann have been let down and it’s time we had our fair share. Our SDLP Minister Nichola Mallon is determined to see the transformative A5 road project come to fruition. We also need to see a north-west university that serves the need of people here. This area is crying out for sustained investment across the constituency to create jobs and revitalise our local economy.
“We need a complete overhaul to fix our broken education system that is failing pupils, parents and teachers. People in West Tyrone are sick of waiting months and even years for medical treatment they desperately need, while others languish on housing waiting lists.
“We also need a real commitment to tackle the climate crisis that threatens the future of all our young people.
“None of these things will happen if people continue to vote for the same old politicians who have failed to deliver for them, they will get the same old results and excuses and we’ll be back here in five years’ time with the same problems facing our people.”
