SEANIE Meyler has presented a cheque totalling £29,008.68 to help support the 40 plus nursing staff working in the Critical Care Unit at the South West Acute Hospital.
The former Tyrone and Omagh St Enda’s GAA footballer and Omagh Harrier raised the money by completed a gruelling marathon on a treadmill in his garden shed on his 54th birthday – a very hot day in April.
He was inspired to take on this incredible challenge by his wife Paula and her nursing colleagues in the unit who are treating and caring for patients during the global Covid-19 pandemic.
Seanie said, “Paula works with a team of dedicated and hard-working nursing staff who give top class attention to patients who are in this high-risk unit, while I was sitting safely at home so I set up a fundraising page with a target of £4,000.
“I had plenty of support and encouragement from my family and the online comments really helped me. The money will go directly to the nurses to purchase anything which will make their jobs easier over months ahead. I am so grateful for everyone who contributed – a massive thank you!”
