Service to remember Noah takes place tomorrow

THE remembrance service for Noah Donohoe will take place this Sunday (June 20) at the Community Garden in Barrack Street.

The event has been organised by local independent councillor Raymond Barr. He explained, “There will be a tree planting ceremony and a stone will be placed in memory of Noah. I would like to stress this is not a protest but a commemoration to remember Noah on the eve of his first anniversary.

“Noah went missing on Sunday (Father’s Day) June 21 last year and it’s fitting we will be remembering him on Father’s Day. Noah was born in Strabane, and it goes without saying this young man’s death has had a profound effect on people locally and across the world.

“A number of local sports clubs will be represented with 14 -year-olds displaying pictures of Noah.

“I hope Strabane will respond and show their solidarity with Fiona and the Donohoe family,” he said.

“I would once again like to thank Fr Boland for the use of the community garden; Strabane Community Project manager Ursula Doherty for facilitating the commemoration; JD Images for the posters; Michael Kielty snr for supplying the PA; Michael Ferry for sorting the music; and last but certainly not least Paul Madden for the beautiful blue heart which will along with the tree being planted will be a lasting memorial to Noah from the people of Strabane.”

Cllr Barr also requested all council building would be lit up blue to mark the anniversary. His proposal received unanimous support from councillors.
