AT a time when football is all but a memory, one local man’s podcast about the sport is blossoming in popularity.
Former scouser and adopted Strabane man, Shaun ‘Amo’ Hamilton recently joined forces with a fellow ex-Liverpudlian, Danny Roberts to establish ‘Amo and Danny’s Irish Anfield Road: A Liverpool FC podcast.
Featuring all things football but with an emphasis on the Premier League Champions in waiting, the podcast is already drawing in listeners from all over the world.
“It’s been going for about three months and it’s doing OK and we’re on episode 12 now,” explained Shaun.
“Basically, Danny’s a lad from Liverpool like myself and he moved to Belfast. When I lived in Belfast together we started playing football together; I already knew him from Liverpool.”
He added, “The podcast is about football in general and also the Irish connection between here and Liverpool FC.”
Available on Spotify, Podbean, Google Music and soon to be on Apple Music, Shaun said he was surprised, although pleasantly so when they started picking up listeners from all over.
“We’ve listeners in Chile, America and India – it’s quite mad,” he laughed.
“For someone who started it in their kitchen, that’s not bad.
“Like, who’s sitting there in Chile listening to our podcasts? And we had 15 listeners in America last week.”
Dealing with topics such as life without football, great players of the past, audience interaction and even a podcast with partners who are living with football fanatics who currently don’t have any football to watch, the podcast also features special guests.
“It’s not just for Liverpool fans but that’s part of the dynamic,” Shaun explained. “It’s not going to be for everyone but if it’s for you… we’ve had some great feedback.”
