A SION MILLS man has enlisted the help of an Oasis legend to help him raise funds for a Manchester hospice.
Nicky McCallan is raffling an original 12’’ copy of the Oasis single Shakermaker and a new copy of their documentary Supersonic, both of which have been signed by the band’s guitarist Bonehead
Now living in Manchester Nicky is currently taking part in a mammoth challenge to completing the Land’s End to John O’ Groats running route consisting of 874 miles. He will complete the run between January 13 to August 31 this year.
So far, Nicky has raised over £2,000 for St Ann’s Hospice which provides care to people and their families living with a life-limiting illness in the Greater Manchester community.
Nicky hopes the Oasis raffle will increase his fund-raising efforts. Both items will be raffled off in one lot for the charity.
To enter, people just have to donate anything from £1 upwards.
Bonehead will pick a name at random from the list on Nicky;s Just Giving page at 6pm on Sunday, February 28.
Nicky explained, “I am raising whatever I can for the hospice and I am hoping to have the running challenge complete by August.
“It is 124 miles a month so that’s around 31 miles a week.
“It is going well and we have just hit £2,000 but we are hoping the raffle will bring in more funds.
“I just happened to be chatting to Bonehead and told him what I was doing and he said we should meet up and he would sign some items for me.
“As soon as he signed the items, the donors came flooding in and there has been £1,000 extra added to the pot which is great.
“I bought the record in 1994 so it is an original copy,” said Nicky.
Despite living in Manchester, Nicky has received a lot of support from his friends back in Sion and Strabane.
He explained, “When I put the raffle on Facebook I could see the donations coming in and I recognised most of the names from my home town”.
