Surprise party for bride forced to postpone wedding

A PLUMBRIDGE woman who was forced to postpone her big day was pleasantly surprised by her work colleagues recently when they threw her a party to mark her wedding date.

Bryony Houston and her fiancé Stuart McCain were supposed to get married last Thursday (May 7) in Omagh, followed by a reception in the Silverbirch Hotel.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions the couple were left with no option but to postpone the wedding. However on Thursday Bryony arrived at work to find her colleagues at the Omagh Day Centre had a surprise planned for her.

Bryony, a floating support worker in the Adult Learning Disability Team, was treated to a party with the clients and staff members with cakes, buns and tea for everyone.
Speaking to the Chronicle Bryony said, “It was a lovely surprise and there definitely was some tears but they were good tears.

“It was so nice of them to think of me and go to all the effort. The staff all baked, had cakes, bunting and they even got me a veil.

“It was lovely, and they are so thoughtful.

“They are such a good team and they were all devastated for me, so it was a lovely way to mark the day.”
Bryony said it is disappointing that the wedding had to be postponed, but remains positive as it “was just not meant to be at the moment.”

She said, “The run up to the wedding was very strange as we felt like it should have been the busiest week, but we just keep looking forward now.

“So I am staying positive. It is a call you never think you are going to have to make, and if anything, this has shown we all take things for granted and just assume things will go to plan. Once we get our wedding day, we will appreciate it a lot more.”

Bryony and Stuart have now rescheduled their wedding for July but she admits she is worried that the wedding will have to be downsized or rescheduled again.

“We have rescheduled for a date in July, but I am not holding out much hope for it because I know of other people who had planned on getting married in July but they have now rescheduled until next year.

“Originally we had planned for 150 people but if we decide to go ahead, I highly doubt we will be able to have that many people which is disappointing because obviously it is a big day and we will want all of our family and friends there.

“Given the circumstances, we are just glad that everyone is healthy and happy at the minute.

“This virus outweighs everything else, and we can’t selfishly think that I am really annoyed because there are so many other people being devastatingly impacted by this,” Bryony added.
