Drumragh 4-11 Drumquin 0-6
Drumragh are Division Three Reserve Championship winners for 2023 after producing a powerful display to overcome Drumquin at Gardrum Park in Dromore on Saturday afternoon.
As the final scoreline suggests this was one way traffic throughout with the Sarsfields well on their way to the silverware by halftime having established a 2-5 to 0-3 lead. There was no let up in the second half as well as they continued to dominate to emerge convincing winners on the day.
Niall McCarney opened the scoring from a free and after both Ben Monk and Kevin Marron had scored from play Cormac Dolan fired in the opening goal of the afternoon with a dozen minutes gone on the clock. At the end of the opening quarter the Wolfe Tones opened their account via Finnan Patterson but it was already obvious that they had a lot of work to do if they were to get back into the contest.
Mattie Gere and Patterson exchanged points with Oran Devlin and Dolan before it was effectively game over when Drumragh got a second major in the 29th minute. It was a superb effort from McCarney who charged through the middle of the Drumquin defence before unleashing a thunderbolt from thirty yards out.
Any thoughts that Drumquin had of mounting a comeback ended in the first attack of the second half when McCarney scored his second goal of the game. Frankie McAlynn responded with a brace of points for the Wolfe Tones but they were to score just once more. Marron pointed from play and that was followed by a trio of successful free kicks from the boot of McCarney.
With ten minutes left to play Drumragh midfielder James Broderick surged through to fire in goal number three and that was followed by a point from team Captain Paddy Roache. McAlynn had Drumquin’s last score but it was the Sarsfields who had the final say through centre half back Barry Kirwan.
