Jordan seals play-off triumph

OMAGH’S Jordan Hyland completed a week to remember on Tuesday when claiming outright victory in the Charleston Invitational.

The Omagh man posted back-to-back rounds of 74 to finish in a tie of the lead with Charleston’s Mitch Hoffman, who recorded a 72 and 76.

But it was Hyland’s nerve that held firm over the course of the two-hole play-off to claim the overall triumph and help his Davis and Elkins University team to a third place finish.

The former Omagh CBS pupil’s victory was the team’s first individual success of the ‘Senators’ spring season and it came on the back of their team victory at the Crofton Invitational last week when the 2020 Ulster Herald young sports personality of the year was their joint second best performer over the two rounds  as they sealed an emphatic 12 stroke triumph.

Hyland completed his two rounds of the Crofton Country Club in 155 strokes after rounds of 77 and 78, exactly the same as his team-mate Evan Lewis.

“Delighted the team won, [but I’m a] wee bit disappointed in the individual performance. I just didn’t hit the ball great but mentally I was in a good place so hopefully [I’ll] keep the same mentality [going forward],” he said.
