WITH the Ulster Minor Championship pencilled in to start at the beginning of February Tyrone Ladies manager Jonny Garrity has confirmed he will use the next two weeks to finalise his squad.
Garrity who took on the role with the county Minors after succeeding Mark Doran, has been impressed with the standard of the players he has watched so far following a series of high quality trials held through December.
“ As a management team we would like to stress that the standard was very high and the players have made our decisions extremely difficult. The extended panel will allow us to have another look at players who have like the players who haven’t made it did themselves, their clubs and families proud.”
Fixtures for the provincial campaign will be confirmed by the Ulster Council at their annual convention.
While the Ulster series will start in February the All-Ireland stage of the competition will not get underway until July meaning an extended season for players and coaches alike.
Garrity added: ““ We will have to work with the players and plan an extended programme. We want to be competing at the latter stages and I know we have to be doing a lot of work,” explained the Fintona man, who is joined in his management set-up by the experienced Dermott Feeley.
Meanwhile it’s expected the Tyrone Minor League will start at the beginning of March with Garrity happy to work with Club managers and local fixture makers to ensure full competition along the national guidelines.
Elsewhere the Tyrone Ladies Under 14 and 16 trials are drawing to a close and again managers and coaches have been very impressed with the quality of players who have attended sessions through the two codes. Both competitions also get underway at the end of February although final details on the U16 competition have yet to be released.
