Omagh and Ardboe to meet in Frank O’Neill Cup Final

EXTRA time and penalties were required at Father Devlin Park as Donaghmore finally got the better of Eglish in a cracking Jim Devlin Cup semi-final on Saturday afternoon to set up a final date with Dromore.

The home side controlled the first half and goals from Oisin Howell, Rian McAshea, Philip Donnelly and Conor Cush saw them lead 4-4 to 0-7 at halftime, Seamus Muldoon, Nathan Horsfield and Ryan Donnelly among the points for the visitors.

Three two pointers in the third quarter from Matthew McGleenan and Luke Donnelly (2) helped close the gap with Cormac Drayne and Cush responding for the hosts. In the last five minutes Eglish got their noses in front as two pointers from Conor McCann and Donnelly levelled matters before Turlough Muldoon split the posts. It looked like the winners until Cush levelled matters, 4-9 to 0-21.

Cush put Donaghmore in front in extra time but at the turnaround it was Eglish who led by a point thanks to efforts from Seamus Muldoon and McGleenan.

Ryan Cush levelled matters on the restart before a free from his brother Conor put Donaghmore ahead but again Eglish replied via Ryan Donnelly, Luke Donnelly and Colm Byrne before Cush took it to penalties and the home side prevailed.

The Frank O’Neill Cup Final will be between Omagh and Ardboe after both sides came through tough tests against Killeeshil and Rock respectively on Friday evening.

The Omagh game was played in Garvaghey and it saw Ronan O’Neill top score with four points with Oisin Millar grabbing a brace and Eoin McAnulla, Conan Campbel, Barry Tierney, Dan Haigney and Tiernan Campbell all on target as well. Dillon O’Neill weighed in with 0-3 including a two pointer with Cahill Rafferty getting a couple and Packie McMullan, Luke Donnelly, Paul O’Neill and Cormac Donaghy all raising white flags as well.

The other semi final in Rock was just as close with the crucial score proving to be a Cormac Devlin goal as the Rossas went through on a 1-15 to 0-16 scoreline.

Devlin also hit two points to go along with that major with David Mulgrew (5), Kyle Coney (3) and Conall Morgan (2) all to the fore in the scoring stakes with Oisin Devlin, Eugene Teague and Eoghan Devlin registering as well.

Conor McGarrity and Shea Daly both weighed in with 0-4 each for the hosts with the latter’s haul including a two pointer with Thomas Mackle (3), Diarmaid Carroll (2), Cathal McWilliams, Peter Loughran and Cormac O’Neill their other marksmen.
