NINE-year-old Omagh lad Sam Lyons enjoyed a successful start to life in the Irish Minibike Championship at Nutts Corner on Saturday of last week when he achieved three top 10 finishes, including two eighths.
Lyons, younger brother of British Talent Cup racer Jamie, was making his debut in the entry-level VW Audi Bitz BamBam Class.
The grid included the next generation of famous names – Matt Davidson (Barry Davidson), and Max Robinson (Paul Robinson). Also in the line-up were three siblings – Jack, Rachel and Emily Hamilton.
All in their debut outing, it was Jack who took home the bragging rights with a 2nd place finish Race 2. Buster Sherman-Boyd may have secured the top spot in all 3 races every one of the 14 ‘BamBammers’ is deserved of a mention, with many of them competing in their first-ever competition including Lyons, who ended the day with finishes in 8th, 10th and 8th place.
